WHAT TO EXPECT:
The Great Beyond is a 1,000 person capacity festival which happens entirely outdoors. Despite primitive camping with no hook ups for water, electric, or sewage, the camping area exists mostly in shaded areas.

 

The festival takes place on a 10 acre property. Each stage is accessible from the camping area within a 2-3 minute walk. Our parking area is directly across the road, which is ~3 min walk, or around 400-600 ft. Vehicles are not allowed on the property, so wagons are recommended for transferring camping gear.

GENERAL INFO/Rules

✦ All stages are open air and will run rain or shine. There will be no refunds due to bad weather.

✦ Must be 21 to enter. ID Required for entry, doesn’t need to match ticket name.

Can I park my car/camper/rv/etc in the parking lot and camp there?
No. Again, this is a state regulation we must comply with. Not only do we not have space for these vehicles, but security will ask you to leave. The parking lot is reserved for regular cars, trucks, and vans. There is no room for trailer parking.
Can I bring my motorhome/camper/whatever in early?
It is possible to bring it in on Thursday evening if you contact us in advance. This is advisable for bigger rigs. You can’t stay on the property after dropping it off. You’re welcome to return when the gates open on Friday morning. We assume no responsibility for any damage or missing items.
I am bringing a tow-behind camper. Do I have to unhook and move my vehicle?
Yes, sorry. This is another State mandate. You’re free to park your vehicle in the lot across the street.
Can I bring my pet if it stays in the camper/rv/whatever?
No, sorry. “But it’s a service pet.” Still a no, sorry. You may see two dogs at some point during the weekend. They live on the property.
Is there a nearby area that allows campers?
Jackpot Junction Casino has an RV parking lot. You’re welcome rent space from them and take the shuttle to TGB.

Dogs/Service Animals:

Due to the presence of farm animals, including goats and two resident dogs that are not socialized to other dogs, service animals cannot be permitted at this event—no exceptions. This decision is based on the risk of disruption and safety concerns and is considered a valid exemption under federal law (28 CFR 35.130(b)(7)) as a fundamental alteration to the nature of the event.

Do I need an RV Pass to "CAMP" with my RV, Motor Home, Van, Car, Pop up, Tow-behind, anything-with-wheels?
Yes. If it has wheels and you intend to camp in it or next to it, you must have an RV Pass. If you do not have an RV pass, it will not be allowed onto the festival property. Additionally, you cannot park them in regular parking. This is reserved for normal vehicles such as cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, etc. Regular parking at TGB is still free, and is located just across the street.
 
“Ok, but why?” The state counts all of these vehicles and units as ‘structures,’ which we are limited to a very finite amount of. This is completely out of our control. Alternatively, Jackpot Junction has an RV Park with full hookups. You’re welcome to stay there and take the festival bus to and from TGB. The ride is approx 20 minutes one way. Scroll down to “Is there a nearby area that allows campers?” for more info.
Is festival parking free, and where is it located?
Regular parking (cars, trucks, vans) is free, and located directly across the street. There is no room to park trailers. You are not allowed to camp in the regular parking lot.
RV Passes are sold out...will more passes become available?
No. This is a State regulation that is out of our control. If you email us asking for one, we will not respond. No exceptions. Sometimes they do pop up for resale. The Ticketing Co now has a resale option with a waiting list. You can sign up for this or try reaching out on the Intellephunk Facebook Group.

How do I get out to The Great Beyond?​
We offer two roundtrip airport shuttles for up to 56 passengers each. They drop off at The Great Beyond, Morton Inn, and Jackpot Junction Casino. They depart once on Friday afternoon at 4pm from the airport, arriving around 6/6:30 in Franklin. For the return, they arrive at the airport Monday morning around 11:30am. Roundtrip shuttle tickets can be purchased from our ticketing site. For more info and the most up-to-date schedule, please see our Airport Shuttle section.

Renting a car from the airport is the clear luxury option guaranteeing you the most freedom. The drive is approximately 2 hours the majority of it through backcountry roads and small towns. If you choose to drive, beware of speed traps in small towns. People get tickets every year.
Where can I buy supplies like food and alcohol?​
There are some Dollar Generals located on the way in small towns such as Gibbon, Fairfax, Franklin, and Morton. There’s also a Walmart and a liquor store near each other in Redwood Falls (5 min from Jackpot). If you’re all fancy pants, we recommend stopping at food or liquor shops located in the Minneapolis suburbs near the airport.
I’m unable to travel with any camping gear. Can I get gear along the way?
Yes! Here are a couple options:

1. Order gear/equipment online and have it mailed directly to the venue.

The owner has agreed to store any shipments safely and securely indoors. All packages can be picked up from the artist hospitality barn directly across from our merchandise shop. You will be required to show an ID matching the shipping information on packages upon arrival. The venue and The Great Beyond assumes no responsibility for missing or damaged packages. This is not a post office…proceed at your own risk. The address is:

2. Buy gear/equipment on the way to The Great Beyond.

The Minneapolis/St.Paul airport is located next to the Mall of America. It’s huge, and it has everything from clothes to camping gear. There are a number of other chain stores located in the vicinity of the airport and along the way. As you get further from the city, the options start to dwindle.

Mall of America (next to airport) – L.L. Bean, Fjallraven, The North Face, etc.

REI (Bloomington, MN) – Located 5-10 min from the airport. Specializes in outdoor lifestyles. It’s great but gets expensive quickly.

Fleet Farm (Carver, MN) – Located on the way to TGB (Hwy 212). Has everything and slightly less expensive than options like REI.
I bought all this crap and can’t bring it home with me…
We can donate any lightly used camping gear to various homeless encampments in the Minneapolis/St.Paul area. This includes chairs, tents, hammocks, cots, coolers, etc. Again, it’s ok if you leave broken, torn, and dirty but it’s not nice if your donated equipment does! Do not leave your trash with us. You must repack your clean camping gear and place it in the designated area on Sunday or Monday. Thank you in advance for any donations!

Camping space is limited. Arriving early will help your chances in camping together.
Arrive during daylight
Finding a campsite that suits your needs may be tricky and showing up while it’s still light out is your best bet.
No fires at campsites
There are communal fire pits.
Leave No Trace
That includes cigarette butts, garbage, cups, and cans. There shouldn’t be a single item left behind. Pick up your litter throughout the weekend. Bring a bag of trash to the dumpster on your way to the mainstage. Baby goats live on the property. Think about the baby goats!
Zero tolerance
…for theft, vandalism, or illegal substances.

Can I transfer my ticket?
The ticket name is not required to match the ID name, but an ID is still required to verify your age. If you’re buying your ticket from a friend or a trusted source, a ticket name change may not be necessary. If you’re not familiar with the ticket seller or concerned about fraud, you can quickly and easily request a name change on the ticket by emailing info@theticketing.co and giving them the new name and email address.

We highly recommend any official name changes on tickets to avoid issues at the door. We will not admit anyone who’s ticket/QR-code has already been checked-in.
Are journalists or photographers allowed?
What happens in The Great Beyond stays in The Great Beyond. We do not provide passes to media outlets or photographers. Any features, reviews, and public photos are forbidden without approval. You are still welcome to join us as regular guests!
TERRAIN & ACCESIBILITY

✦ The festival takes place on dirt paths and uneven ground—no paved walkways available.

✦ Parking areas may be rough and uneven.

✦ If requested in advance, we will do our best to provide an ADA drop-off zone near the entrance to assist with unloading gear and improving accessibility.

Please note that availability may be limited during high-traffic times, but we’re aiming to offer this option as part of our ongoing accessibility efforts.

A must-read for returning guests and first-timers alike. When it comes to camp space, the sanctuary fills up quickly. On Friday morning, our camp liaisons will be around to assist in camp planning and compliance. In order to fit everyone’s camp site in a fair and timely manner, please consider the following:

 

✦ “When can we arrive and when do we have to leave?”
Our gates open at 10am. Arriving earlier to set up campsites won’t be permitted.
Please leave by 10am sharp on Monday to make room for our crew. Tear down and cleaning begins immediately.

 

✦ “Can I pull my car up to my campsite?”
No, sorry. A golf cart may help you, but only if they’re not busy. We don’t have any wagons on hand, but you’re welcome to bring one or barter with a neighbor.

✦ “How far do I have to walk from the parking lot to my site?”
Across the street. ~400 ft


✦ “Do I need an RV-pass?”
If it has wheels and you intend to camp in or next to it, yes. This includes cars, vans, campers, pop-ups, RVs, busses, the list goes on.


✦ “Can I still buy an RV-pass?”
Sorry, they are sold out and new passes will not be made available.


✦ “Can I sleep in my vehicle in the parking lot?”
No. Sorry, it’s State permit thing.


✦ “Can I sleep in my hammock?”
All it takes is an open spot and a dream.


✦ “I’m staying at a hotel, but setting up a base camp.”
Full support. However, please allow campers priority on shaded camping areas. They don’t have an air conditioned room to run off to. Consider setting up your tent/screen tent on the periphery of a dance floor.


✦ Keep a small footprint.
Place tents as close together as possible. This gives more people a chance to be in the shade.


✦ Plan early!
Our tented camping area is 70-80% shaded. No space reserving allowed for friends unless you’re setting their tent up ahead of time.


✦ Communal screen tents and pop-ups:
please consider setting them up closer to the stage or in an open area. The State Inspector would love this, which means we would too.


✦ Emergency roads are clearly marked.
Everything must be contained within these markers. This includes coolers, tent stakes, and basically anything else. The State Inspector has enforced this each year and will do so again this year.


✦ No glass in the camping areas.


✦ Primitive Camping:
There are no defined campsites, nor are there hook-ups for electrical, water, or sewage. There is one communal fire pit. All other fires and charcoal grills are prohibited.


✦ Free Water:
Clean well water is available in the campground. We highly recommend bringing your own reusable water bottle instead of numerous disposable ones.


✦ Showers & Toilets:
There are no showers on the property. Consider bringing a solar shower and setting it up outside the shaded camping area. The only toilets on the premise are porta-potties.


✦ Mosquitos, gnats, and other bugs:
the property is sprayed three times in advance of the festival. This greatly reduces the bug population to comfortable levels, but just in case, we recommend bringing bug spray anyway. It’s usually ok, but last year was a little gnarly.


✦ Valuables:
The safest place for anything valuable is in the trunk of your car. We are not responsible for anything lost, stolen, or damaged on the property.


✦ Be cool.
When stopping in town, doing a supply run, or hanging at the casino, please treat locals with respect. Your behavior determines the fate of TGB. Currently, they still like us!

✦ Are you a whip-it savage?
Please separate your spent canisters into separate bags or boxes. To be honest, it got a little out of control. We’re not banning gas, but now strongly discouraging anyone from bringing it.


✦ PACK IT OUT, PACK IT IN.
Goats, geese, chickens, and other animals live on this property. They don’t want to choke on your bottle caps or whip-it canisters. For the sake of the animals, please deep-clean your campsite.

✦ CHECK-IN CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT.
Nobody will be admitted until morning, and there will be no exceptions. Sorry, but we need to make sure our staff gets some sleep.


✦ Proceed to Admissions (#1). Your ticket will be scanned and you’ll receive your wristband. After a quick vehicle search, you’ll park your car/RV and start unloading for camping.


✦ Performers can check in at the same area with their full legal names.

Come prepared for 3 days!
We recommend bug spray, bug netting, sun block, flashlights, food, cooler full of ice, and water. Bring a variety of clothes, extra socks, shoes, and rain gear. Minnesota summers are unpredictable, so be prepared for rain, heat, or maybe even cold weather.

 

Pro tips: Wet wipes, hand sanitizer, deodorant, mouthwash, tooth brush, soap, condoms, extra masks, portable phone charger, solar chargers, camping chairs, hammocks, portable shower bladders.

On the Premesis

Severe and hazardous weather can include conditions produced by thunderstorms, including damaging winds, lightning, tornadoes, large hail, flooding and flash flooding. In the event of severe weather, we will ask attendees to take shelter. Initially, we will ask people to shelter in the barn where our merch booth is located. We will make posts to social media, our website front page, and at each stage if this needs to happen.
They’ll be on hand to assist you when you need it most. If you’ve pushed yourself too hard with partying or if someone has harassed/assaulted you, they can help. This is also the spot for drug testing, over-the-counter medicine like advil, condoms, tampons and more.
 
Care team staff will be wearing light-up lanyards. Feel free to flag them down if you are in need of assistance.

You’ll find a variety of picnic tables, chairs, and hammocks on the outer perimeter of the dance floor. The picnic tables are always open to the public. Some chairs and hammocks belong to us. We believe in an open-seat philosophy and encourage you to do the same. If a seat is open, feel free to use it. If you come back and someone is using your stuff, snuggle up!

Just kidding. Ask them kindly to move. If you’re asked to move, don’t be rude. If you want to save your seat, put an item like a hat, shirt, towel, etc. down to claim it.

Ice is available for sale at the festival (cash only) in 20lb bags. Bags of ice will cost approximately $12-15

In full transparency…staffing, delivery, and freezer rental isn’t cheap. There is zero profit margin for us. We hope you understand.

As we are all aware, there has been increased ICE activity in Minnesota in recent times. We understand that  attendees may be concerned about what would happen if ICE or law enforcement were to show up at the festival. Please know this is something we take very seriously.

Although we cannot promise that law enforcement will never appear- know that we are training our staff on a clear protocol. We will not voluntarily assist immigration enforcement beyond what is legally required. We will not help identify, question, separate, or point out attendees based on immigration status, race, language, accent, appearance, or perceived nationality.

If immigration enforcement comes to the festival, staff will direct agents to our designated lead and request identification and any applicable warrant. We will refrain from consenting to their entry into private or staff-only areas without a judicial warrant, document the interaction, and contact legal and community support partners.

Our priority is to keep the situation calm, protect attendees’ privacy whenever legally possible, and avoid creating unnecessary panic or disruption. Staff are also being trained on basic Constitutional rights: that all individuals have the right to remain silent,  all individuals have a right to legal representation, and no one is required to answer questions about where they were born, their immigration status, or how they entered the United States without a lawyer present. 

According to recently observed and reported data, we have seen ICE activity shift from focusing primarily on the metro area to spreading out further into rural Minnesota, where constitutional observers are lower in numbers and much slower in their response times. We would be remiss not to note that this has the potential to increase the likelihood of encounters with ICE and other law enforcement when traveling to and from the festival. In response to this, we’d like to share these recommendations and resources with you.

  1. Always drive the speed limit. Law enforcement tends to camp out at the entrance of many of the small towns on the way to the festival. Do not give them any reason to pull you over- a vehicle checklist infographic is shared below.
  2. Carpool if you can. Everything’s better with a buddy.

  4. Keep all necessary legal documents with you during travel, out of an abundance of caution

For people visiting from outside of Minnesota, weed is legal here. “Off the Path” is a new dispensary is open directly across the street from the casino.

Remember to follow all local and state regulations, and do not smoke it outside any hotel. It’s important for us to retain good standing with the community.

While controlled substances are prohibited at The Great Beyond, we are still dedicated to making sure there are testing supplies available through our harm reduction team.
